How to use the EquiAmi for long-term positive change.

If you decide to hit the gym to improve your fitness, or watch your diet to lose a few pounds, it can be tempting to reduce your efforts once you see some positive changes. But the reality is, without carrying on with your new fitness regime or by going back to snaffling one or two extra biscuits a day, the fitness will dwindle, and the pounds will go back on. Maintaining the results of all your hard work can sometimes be harder than getting started in the first place! Longer term effort will drive greater achievements and results which last. But what has that got to do with the EquiAmi lunge aid?

One of the questions we get asked regularly is “how long does it take for the EquiAmi to start working?”. Now that’s a good question, as we know customers are keen to see positive changes in their horse, and the answer we give is that it’s just like hitting the gym. It’s not a quick fix! The EquiAmi is very effective, but you need to keep using it.

When you start to use the EquiAmi, the horse must learn to balance, carry and lighten itself, as the self-centering design of our lunge aid means it can’t lean on it. That’s why for the first session we recommend a long and low fitting while they understand what’s being asked of them. Horses tend to adapt quickly to this no-pressure approach and soon start working in a lighter, more collected outline with excellent headquarter engagement. That’s why just 20 minutes of work in the EquiAmi twice a week is so effective.

You don’t expect results after one gym session, however sweaty you got and however achy those legs are afterwards! True change takes weeks to show, as muscle grows a little more slowly than many people realise. The very same is true for your horse when you ask them to change or develop their way of going. But while the change in your horse’s way of going while they are working in the EquiAmi might be evident after just a few sessions, their muscle development will take longer. That muscle will help your horse stay balanced and collected when you need it most – during a tight turn in the show jumping ring, over the undulating ground of the cross-country course or in the dressage arena.

That’s why we advise all our customers to make the EquiAmi part of their regular work and fitness routine with your horse. Just like making a commitment to being fitter means you need to include exercise in your daily routine, ensuring meaningful change with our lunge aid means you carry on using the EquiAmi. Over time your horse will develop more muscle in the right places – and working those muscles without a rider on board helps boost blood flow to the topline too. Our unique design is why we were awarded a patent in 2006 and we’re so proud to produce something which is unique and helps horses learn to carry themselves properly.
