Lungeing Accessories

We wrongly assumed that all horsey people had lunging equipment in their tack rooms. It seems that many of you are trying lunging for the first time or have old bits of tack that need replacing. We decided to develop our own range of lunging accessories so that we can equip you with as much or as little as you need. There is a large range of lunging equipment available from retailers but much of it we would not use ourselves so we have designed cavessons and rollers that we are happy to use on our horses and feel happy to recommend to others.

We do not generally like lunging cavessons as they are extremely heavy on the front of the nose and don’t often fit very well. We have designed a lovely lightweight practical lunging cavesson that is made from soft yet strong modern webbing. It was runner-up in the innovations awards at BETA 2012 for its modern design which reduces rubbing and twisting. It also has optional bit straps which eliminates the need to have a bridle squashed under the cavesson. We think this is an excellent addition to the tack room. Unless your horse is particularly strong or inclined to take liberties, you should avoid attaching the lunge rein to the bit as this disturbs the soft, equal contact that is created by the training aid. Lunging from the bit can cause sideways pressure on the mouth and inward head tilt which are both undesirable. Lunging from the middle ring of the cavesson avoids pressure on the bit and makes changing the rein simple as you just turn the horse in the other direction and carry on. We are proud that our cavessons are designed and made in England.

EquiAmi lunge cavessons come in black, pony, cob or full size.
The lunging roller should be well designed, comfortable and have a large D ring on each side to allow the training aid to pass through. We found that, often, the D ring was not in quite the right position which depended very much upon the width of the horse. We have developed a roller with two generous D rings on each side so that there will usually be one that sits in the right place for the particular horse being lunged. Fleece lined for comfort EquiAmi rollers are available in black and in pony, cob and full sizes. They have plenty of adjustment and strong eyelets. Both the cavessons and rollers are Made in England in Walsall – home of good saddlery.

We have now designed our own padded lunge rein with markers for 10m, 15m, and 20m to get the perfect circle size.
